How to compress an image

  1. Drop your images above. JPG, PNG and WebP all work
  2. Choose Exact size and type a limit such as 100 KB, or pick Quality for manual control
  3. Every image is compressed to the best quality that fits, and resized only if necessary
  4. Compare the sizes in the list, then Download or Download ZIP

How to get the smallest files

Set an exact size. Need a file under 50 KB or 1 MB for a form or an email? Choose Exact size, type the limit, and the tool finds the best quality that fits.

Lower the quality. For photos, 70–80% quality usually looks identical to the original but is often 3–5 times smaller.

Use WebP. WebP files are typically 25–35% smaller than JPG at the same visual quality, and they keep transparency like PNG. All modern browsers and most apps support WebP.

Shrink huge photos. Phone cameras take 12–50 megapixel photos. If the image is for a website or email, a longest side of 1920 px is plenty and saves a lot of space.

What about PNG?

PNG is lossless, so re-saving it rarely makes it much smaller. For screenshots and graphics, converting to WebP gives big savings while keeping sharp edges and transparency. If a result ends up bigger than your original, the tool keeps the original automatically.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about the compress image tool.

How much can I reduce the file size?

Typical photos shrink by 50–90%, depending on the quality you choose and whether you also reduce the dimensions.

Will people notice the lower quality?

At 70–80% quality, most people cannot see a difference. Check the large preview before downloading.

Is there a file size or number limit?

No fixed limit. Everything runs on your device, so very large batches just take a little longer.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Compression happens in your browser. Your photos never leave your device.
