How to make an Instagram grid

  1. Add your photo. For a perfect fit, use a 3:4 portrait image for a 3×3 grid
  2. Choose 3×3, or 2×3 / 1×3 for fewer rows
  3. Click Download ZIP to get all tiles, numbered from top-left
  4. Post the highest number first and finish with tile 1, so the grid lines up

Getting a seamless Instagram grid

Instagram profiles show posts in rows of three, newest first. To build one big picture, split your image into three columns and post the tiles in reverse order. The last tile you post (tile 1) lands in the top-left corner.

Which image size should I use?

Instagram's profile grid shows each post as a 3:4 portrait thumbnail. If every tile is 3:4, the grid looks seamless. With three columns, that means:

  • 3 rows: an image in 3:4 ratio (for example 2160×2880 px)
  • 2 rows: an image in 9:8 ratio (for example 2160×1920 px)
  • 1 row: an image in 9:4 ratio (for example 2160×960 px)

Other ratios work too, but Instagram may crop the edges of each tile in the grid view.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about the instagram grid maker tool.

In what order should I post the tiles?

Post from the highest number down to 1. For a 3×3 grid, post tile 9 first and tile 1 last. Instagram shows the newest post first, at the top-left.

Does the grid tool reduce quality?

No. PNG keeps every pixel. For smaller files, choose JPG at 90% quality. Instagram re-compresses uploads anyway.

Can I make a 3×2 or 3×1 grid?

Yes. Set the rows to 2 or 1 and keep 3 columns.

Is there a watermark?

No. Your tiles are clean and the tool is free.
